Mark Zuckerberg and Cambridge Analytica: leaked data of 87 million users

How it started

Tenth of April audition of the Mark Zuckerberg has begun in conjunction with leak of users’ data from Facebook and lasted for about 5 hours. Mark Zuckerberg turned up in front of United States Congress. At the same day he was questioned by 44 senators. On the next day he was testified by House of Representatives. Anna Eshoo asked him if data was stolen. He answered yes.

What have done Cambridge Analytica

Cambridge Analytica collected data from millions of users which owners didn’t take part in quiz created by Russian scientist Aleksandr Kogan. Cambridge Analytica supported Donald Trump during his presidential campaign. They were using data in terms of their potential election decisions. Its operations could have effect on presidential election of USA and Referendum regarding Brexit.

Cooperation with Mueller

Founder of Facebook advised that his company contacted public prosecutor Robert Mueller team which is researching influence of the Russians on American presidential elections in 2016. He admitted that a few of his workers were interrogated by prosecutor.

Zuckerberg accuses Russia

During Zuckerberg audition many assurances has been given that Facebook will do his best to prevent using the site for the purpose, of influencing on results of the elections in many countries. Zuckerberg stated that it’s the most important thing to do now. But he pointed that:

“As long as in Russia there will be people which task are to interfere in elections we can’t ensure that Facebook will be free from similar actions. Its online armaments race” – He said

At 9 of April Facebook CEO published a statement in which he confirmed that Facebook hadn’t taken appropriate steps to prevent leaks.

“Now it’s clear that we haven’t done enough to prevent harmful use of that tools”

Zuckerberg apologizes

“We didn’t have enough wide look on our responsibilities and it was a big mistake. That was my mistake and I’m sorry. I founded Facebook and I am responsible for everything that happened.” – Says Zuckerberg

About leakage of the data are interested important institutions and state authorities on whole world like Federal Trade Commission (FTC) which leads investigation into the case of data leak and the European Parliament.

FTC has to determine if usage of data by Cambridge Analytica should have been preceded by obtaining right consent.

Even British House of Commons wanted Zuckerberg to testify but he refused.
